PROJECT MANAGER – HI-RISE FIRE ALARM
Program: Los Angeles Unified School District – Division of District Operations
Salary Range: $81.3K to $95.6Kannual base salary plus benefits
DUTIES:
- Maintains fire alarm and related systems for the District’s high-rise and other administrative offices
- Troubleshoots all alarm issues and coordinates events occurring on the fire alarm systems
- Provides direction to Central Shop Supervisor, Project Managers and Crafts Supervisors on performing surveys
- Performs job cost estimates; writes requisitions for materials and supplies
- Inspects Fire Life Safety systems to insure compliance with local codes and specifications
- Coordinates, supervises and inspects maintenance contract work
- Repairs & makes corrections required resulting from City and Fire Department inspections for HQ buildings
- Plans and estimates long term improvements and upgrades to the fire life safety system
- Maintains reasonable inventory of fire alarm parts and supplies
- Surveys sites, plans, schedules, inspects, & certifies completion of fire life safety systems and operations performed by the District and contractor personnel involving the construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of such systems
- Prepares scopes of work and work with contractors for improvements and installation
- Prepares correspondence, reports, instructions, and manuals regarding safety related to fire alarm systems
- Provides emergency responses and related services to minimize safety hazards to students, employees, and others
- Identifies and evaluates equipment, supplies, techniques, and systems
- Coordinates resolution of construction project issues in accordance with district policy, applicable laws, and regulations
- Programs fire alarm system when changes or upgrades are completed; prepare as-built drawing layouts and location of fire alarm devices
- Provides monthly preventive maintenance on main fire alarm systems & remote power supplies; submits Fire Life Safety drawings to the Los Angeles Fire Department for plan review and issuance of permits
- Maintains voltage counts; water-flow & tamper switches; fire extinguisher location & status; stairwell lighting for motion detection functions and repairs issues as needed
- Provides trainings to School Safely Officers to prepare for emergency situations; part of the (ERT) Utility crew to help get needed systems back online after an emergency event
- Provides supervision in the fire control room during fire drills & active alarm events
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) or more years of full time paid professional experience in building maintenance related to hi-rise fire alarm systems; testing and inspection; and overseeing tasks involved in the installation of various fire, security and low voltage systems
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Extensive knowledge of fire alarm panels and security systems
- Experience in working with vendors, manufacturers and contractors
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings
- Critical thinking skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify and manage client expectations
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in any related field
OR
- Candidates without the required Bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 10 years of experience. Four of the ten years of the required experience may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis
- CA State License for Fire Life and Safety Technician
