SENIOR ESTIMATOR
Assignment:      Los Angeles World Airports – MSC
Salary:               $128.9K to $149.7K annual base salary depending upon experience

KEY IDENTIFIERS FOR THE POSITION

  • Proficiency with industry estimating databases and other estimating data sources, e.g. RS Means, EquipmentWatch, Trade Service, etc.
  • 10-15 years of estimating experience with 5-10 years of direct support on an active civil, airport, or commercial construction projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
LAWA is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join the Midfield Satellite Concourse team. Successful candidates will be familiar with the Progressive Design-Build process, able to work independently, and be comfortable interfacing with all members of the co-located design, construction, and management teams. In addition, successful candidates will have experience managing estimating teams on large/mega projects, preparing conceptual estimates for program changes, and negotiating closeout change orders.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

The Estimator’s duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for the MSC Estimating team and liaise with the Design Builder’s Contracts and Change Management groups.
  • Manage the estimating workload and actively engage other project controls and project management staff to ensure that internal commitments and processing objectives are met.
  • Develop conceptual cost estimates from design documents, price alternatives and options, and offer opinions of probable cost for scenarios that may be discussed.
  • Spearhead the estimating and negotiation process for all contract and subcontract changes, including: leading negotiation meetings with the Design Builder, assembling substantiating documentation and contextual information from the project management team, defining clear paths to resolution, and developing Records of Negotiation summarizing the process.
  • Prepare material take offs from design documents or engineering drawings. Including providing: detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems and subsystems, comparison to industry or historical cost data, and evaluation of potential pricing impacts.
  • Evaluate Design Builder change proposals, including reviewing: scope of work, sequencing/phasing, crew sizing, productivity rates, material quantities, equipment usage, labor rates, and markups to establish reasonability and conformance with the requirements of the contract.
  • Provide coordination and liaise with project management and project engineering personnel throughout the estimate development.
  • Prepare Independent Cost Estimates.
  • Oversee and train estimating personnel when necessary.
  • Participate in the scoping, development, and settlement of Owner-driven changes.
  • Interface with the PDG Program Controls team and Executive Management to ensure the project’s continued conformance to established LAWA policies and procedures.

HARDWARE/SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE

  • Thorough familiarity with MS office suite software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience working with Adobe Acrobat, BlueBeam, and Office 365/Sharepoint environments.
  • Experience with On-screen Take-off and Acubid
  • Knowledgeable of presenting graphical data as related to estimating.
  • Demonstrated proficiency estimating formats, including Uniformat II
  • Proficiency with industry estimating databases and other estimating data sources, e.g. RS Means, EquipmentWatch, Trade Service, etc.
  • Knowledge of work with various types of contracting methods such as, Design/Bid/Build (DBB), Design Build (DB), Construction Management at Risk (CMAR), Guarantee Maximum Price (GMP), etc.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE LEVEL/OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10-15 years of estimating experience with 5-10 years of direct support on an active civil, airport, or commercial construction projects
  • Demonstrates a proactive, firm, and respectful approach to estimate reconciliation efforts and change order processing
  • Proven reliability and rigor in past job performance
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the capacity to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Previous experience with large airports is highly desirable
  • Previous experience with internal/external audit compliance is desirable

EDUCATION/TRAINING

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
